Pros and Cons of Living in Ogden, UT

Ogden, Utah

Ogden is located about 40 minutes north of Salt Lake City and 10-15 minutes from Hill Air Force Base. We actually live in Ogden and have to say the pros for sure outweigh the cons!

Pros of Living in Ogden

One of the biggest benefits of Ogden is the location. The heart of Ogden is 25th street which has restaurants, shops, gyms and pretty much anything else you can think of. Another plus of Ogden is the trails and mountain activities. The trails here are some of the best in Northern Utah. Ogden is 15 minutes away from Pineview Reservoir where you can swim during the summer and ice fish during the winter. Many tourists stay in Ogden based on the easy access to world renowned ski hills. The proximity to Salt Lake City could be looked at as a pro or a con. Like I previously mentioned Salt Lake City is about 40 minutes away. Depending on how close you want to be to the city would decide whether it is a pro or not. To us, we love the distance because we’re not too far and not too close. A pro of Ogden is the four distinct seasons. Because of this you can fully enjoy all of the outdoor activities year round.

Cons of Living in Ogden

The cons are hard to come up with if we’re being honest. We mention in the video linked above that one negative of living here is the inversion that happens every winter. The inversion normally occurs after snow storms. This is because the cold air pushes the warmer air down into the valley and creates a blanket that traps air in. Unless you have severe asthma or something similar it would never really affect you besides the valley looking a little smoggy. In order to combat this you could live higher on the mountain bench to get out of the inversion. Something that is a pro and a con is the hot summers and cold winters. This is a con because not only do you have to deal with the heat of the summer, you also have to deal with the snow during the cold winter. In the past a con would’ve been that downtown is a little rundown but Ogden City has been revitalizing the neighborhoods and the city. It has been completely changed during the past 10 years and they aren’t done.
